A quiet Christmas morning
The HOLIDAYS. That is how I learnt to refer to Christmas time in the USA. “Noel” is the way in Europe - in my experience. “Christmas” is how we grew up, with presents. As an adult, I learnt to experience the spiritual quiet of this time of year.
On this morning, in the middle of the Holidays/Christmas, I feel locked into a quiet, good space. In the last few days I spent some time going doing previous years’ filing. Small business stuff. Specifically archiving invoices. As I worked my way through the past 4 years, removing the month by month invoices from the lever arch files and transferring them into metal file fasteners, I surprised myself.
Invoices are probably the closest to money than money itself. Of course I am stating this on the assumption that we issue invoices so that they will be paid in the near future!
I did not remember a single number or value on the invoices. What I remember is the clients, the people I worked with and circumstance surrounding the invoices.Almost like paging through a photo album.
My good quiet space today has thoughts of the effort of the past, the place we are at now, and the lesson of history that tomorrow is full of surprises, but most of all, that it offers us the opportunity to connect in the “bigger picture”, and perhaps do more, better.
