South Africa's reputation
Being on holiday in an international setting, where French, Italian and Spanish language predominate, puts one’s own life into perspective. Within a day, the politics, economics and social issues of one’s home base are just an add-ins to the global basket of politics and economics. It is refreshing. However, the one aspect of South Africa that does not find dilution in this global basket is the terrible, violent person to person crime. It stands out. It scares away foreign money. It scares me that the international label for my country is: “it is too dangerous in South Africa”.
