Cape Argus Cycle Tour

Almost 27,000 riders pitched up to take part in the Cape Argus Cycle Tour in Cape Town on the 9th of March. It took some courage to go out on race day: hauling winds made it impossible for some to even start the race as the wind came through the “tunnel” created by how the buildings are positioned in Hertzog Boulevard in the city centre. An additional challenge was added to the route with the detour into Boyes Drive. During the tour, the phrase ,“Hold your line!” needed to be used quite often by riders to ensure that groups kept on moving around tight corners, pockets of gusty wind and slower riders.

Three months into the year, who is shouting hold your line! in your enterprise? Are you still on track for achieving your goals for 2009, performing against plan, in other words: holding your line? Identification of who needs to do what, when and how is critical to keep on track, and only when performance gets measured, you’ll be able to know when to pull the brakes, accelerate or simply hold the line. A second element we take from the sports environment is that of team work. Some sport is about being a team player, other about doing it alone. In both instances, there is, however, additional teamwork: partnering with others that help the player/s to achieve goals. At Pétanque we see partnering with the right partners as key to bring sustainable value and effective solutions to our clients and partners.

Strategic Partnerships

Bytes Technology Group

We are proud to announce our Teaming Partnership with Bytes Technology. This relationship has already delivered on its intent to apply the many elements of VizPro® in the predominantly IT environment in which Bytes add value to large clients. Bytes Technology Group provides a broad range of products, technical skills and specialised services to support enterprise-wide IT infra-structure and telecommunications across Africa and the United Kingdom. Bytes is part of the Altron Group. Allied Electronics Corporation Limited (Altron) through its principal subsidiaries, Allied Technologies Limited, Bytes Technology Group Limited and Power Technologies (Pty) Limited, is invested in the telecommunications, multi-media, information technology and power electronics industries.

Centre for Supplier Development

Equally exciting is our partnership with the Centre for Supplier Development. The CFSD is geared towards building supplier development solutions. Says Michélle Booysen: “VizPro® and our Project Management expertise, combined with the CFSD’s innovative approach to supplier development (one of the elements for Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment) brings a powerful, effective and results focused set of tools and techniques to clients. This partnership promises to bring innovative solutions!”

TenStep, Inc.

Our relationship with TenStep, Inc. goes back to 2003 when we first explored the possibility of making our process tools and techniques available through licensing, based on the successful TenStep Project Management Methodology model. In 2007 we formalised the relationship through the launch of the international ProcessStep brand. During 2008 we incorporated ProcessStep into the TenStep Strategy Delivery Office. The TenStep SDO is a joint venture with TenStep, Inc. providing a suite of services, in partnership with the TenStep Global Practitioners, globally. “The venture makes Pétanque part of the global arena, and enables us to share information, tips and case studies with colleagues in just about every industry and in over 50 countries”, says Michélle.

VizSchool: VizPro® training

Seven years after successfully introducing VizPro® as our process documentation & analysis methodology and applying it to numerous projects with great results, offering VizPro® training was a logical next step. We call the training a boot camp, not because you have to run 50k’s with a 20kg backpack, followed by 200 push-ups, to eventually start mapping processes, but because it is not presented in traditional classroom training format. The training is about Pétanque experts sharing the methodology and guiding learners to immediately practice what is shared in a fun, interactive, fast paced manner. Toss into the mix the principles of project management, plenty of case studies and learner developed process maps, and you have “active learning” boot camping.

VizPro® Boot Camps aim to create process architecture partners with whom we maintain contact to share experiences and case studies. The outcome of the boot camp is that learners are equipped to facilitate process mapping workshops; mapping processes in picture format communicating clearly what must be done, by whom, and when. In addition, we provide the steer to effectively manage and deliver a process mapping project. These skills are “must have” for those involved in process management: regardless of whether process is used for change, for improved performance, for role clarity, for transparency or for gap analysis between the “as is” and the “want to be”.

Boot Camps are offered in 1, 3 or 5 day courses. We discuss specific requirements for your training beforehand, so that you benefit optimally from outcomes. In-house Boot Camps are fully adapted to your organisation’s requirements. Contact us to find out more about the VizPro® Boot Camp.

World Mail Awards

Our vision is to continuously form partnerships with our clients: working closely together to make sure that the planned value is delivered to projects, immediately and on an ongoing basis. “When the South African Post Office decided to enter the work we conducted with them for the World Mail Awards, it underlined that we are delivering on our vision”, says Michélle. Through the SAPO Strategy Office, three submissions were made, two of which are about how process was and continues to be applied to bring about customer satisfaction and process improvement respectively in key areas of the business. The finalists will be announced in May 2009 in Berlin. We cross our fingers!

Moonlight Meander

The Safer Together initiative aims to raise funds to buy safety equipment for neighbourhood watch groups in Greater Muizenberg and bring people in the community together through a range of events. One of the initiatives is the Moonlight Meander, on the Saturday closest to full moon. It offers people the opportunity to have a safe time at the beach when it’s full moon. To add some fun to the evening, Truida Prekel, of SynNovation, who is also a founder member of the Safer Together Initiative, invited MJ and Michélle to demonstrate how to play pétanque on the beach.
